5 Tips for Staying Healthy During Quarantine

It’s no secret that COVID-19 has had a major impact on the way we all live and work. Across the globe, lifestyles have been changed as we practice social distancing, extra handwashing, and quarantining. 

For those of us who are used to more active lifestyles outside our home (which, let’s be honest, is most of us) this has been a huge adjustment. For one, quarantining means no gym, limited (if any) dining out and shopping among other restrictions. It can really take a toll.

While you’re at home doing your part to slow the spread of the virus it’s important to continue to take care of your health. In fact, now more than ever, good health is critical. So here are our top five tips for staying healthy at home.

1 - Get moving

Movement will mean different things for different people. Maybe you’re a fan of yoga or prefer the pace of HIIT or another cardio exercise. Whatever your preference for a workout activity ensure it’s something you enjoy so you will stick to it and be able to make it part of your daily routine.

2 - Get adequate rest

Our bodies need sleep to recover from the hassles and day to day activities we engage in. Sleeping gives our bodies an opportunity to repair tissue, grow muscle, synthesize hormones, restore and strengthen our bodies. So aim for about 8 hours of sleep each night.

It’s also important to go to bed at a reasonable hour each night and to maintain a consistent bedtime so your body gets used to that particular routine.

3 - Have a dedicated workspace

As you spend more time at home, especially with working from home it can become difficult to shut down and disconnect from your laptop. This is why it’s so critical to have a dedicated workspace. This space will help you separate work from your home life and help you maintain a healthy balance.

4 - Maintain a healthy diet

While it can be tempting to slack off and eat whatever’s closest (chips, ) it’s important to do your best to maintain a healthy diet. A big part of staying healthy is eating the right foods and maintaining a balanced diet. That means making sure your meals contain the necessary calories and nutrients.

5 - Hydrate

Like everything else on this list, staying hydrated can be challenging. But it is absolutely critical as your body needs water to perform at its peak. Doctors recommend drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily (64 oz) as a baseline so this is a good goal to aim for.
